DECEMBER 5

The Gift of Greater Understanding

I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you. —Ephesians 1:18 NIV / ASLV

“Oh, I see!” This is a common expression when we come to understand something. We don’t just see it with our eyes. We see it with our hearts and minds.

With their eyes, our Deaf friends can see words on a page. But they see with understanding when they experience the Bible in sign language. This understanding reveals answers to life’s deepest questions and invites them to know the God who created them and cares for them.

Watch the inspiring story below from Adela, a member of the translation team in El Salvador. She expresses the incomparable power of witnessing Scripture in sign language.

Celebrate

Let’s be grateful for all that we see today with our eyes and with our hearts. May God show us the hope to which He has called us!

Pray

  • For discernment as Deaf communities review draft videos of Scripture to ensure that the translation is visually clear, accurate, natural, and acceptable
  • For our partners: Lutheran Bible Translators, Ukraine Sign Language Team, French Sign Language Team, and the Greek Sign Language Team.
