A room full of Deaf children in the Democratic Republic of the Congo sat with their eyes fixed on a screen.
Hands moved. Faces lit up. Attention sharpened.
They were watching the book of Genesis in their own sign language for the very first time.
Before this moment, many of these children thought the Bible simply was not for them. Written words on a page were not fully accessible and Scripture felt distant. God could feel distant too.
Then Genesis became visible.
As the story unfolded in sign language, the children began to understand that God had been speaking to them all along. They just needed access to His Word in a language they could see and understand.
For Joyce, Deaf Bible Society’s Regional Field Facilitator for Africa, the moment was deeply personal.
“As a Deaf person, I see myself in these children,” Joyce shared. “And I hope their courage stirs something in you the way it does in me.”
Our work at Deaf Bible Society is about witnessing the beauty of Deaf people discovering their Creator, one sign at a time. Every verse translated helps build a bridge between Deaf communities and the Word of God. Every sign language Scripture resource helps more Deaf children, families, leaders, and churches encounter the Bible in the language of their hearts.
Because no Deaf child should have to wonder whether God sees them. Together, we are helping make Scripture accessible and engaging, verse by verse and community by community.
