Scripture for every question: Igor’s story from Ukraine

Most of us reach for the Bible without a second thought.

We send a verse to a friend who is struggling. We open a Bible app on a hard day, looking for peace. Many of us have built our understanding of God on words we have had access to since childhood.

But what if your community had hard questions about God and no clear way to search for answers in the language they understood best?

That is part of what makes Igor’s story so impactful.

Igor lives in Ukraine, in the same community where Paul Andrushchak, Deaf Bible Society’s Director of Community Mobilization, is from. Today, Igor has become one of his community’s trusted guides to Scripture.

When friends bring him questions about suffering, hope, and who Jesus is, Igor opens the Deaf Bible app and helps them search for answers. Every translated verse gives Igor more Scripture to share. Each passage made available in sign language becomes another way for Deaf believers in Ukraine to know God more deeply.

Deaf believers are asking deep questions. They are searching for truth. They are looking for answers that reach their hearts and minds in sign language. And, for Deaf communities around the world, access to Scripture provides discipleship, hope, and the ability to bring real questions before God’s Word.

Today would you pray for Igor, for the translation team working alongside him in Ukraine, and for Deaf communities still waiting for more of Scripture in their sign language?

We believe the questions Deaf believers are asking deserve answers in a language they can understand. And we are not stopping until every Deaf person has access to God’s Word in their sign language.
